I went to the open studios as part of the Folkestone Triennial. It was great fun with interesting and entertaining people. Had a superb slice of lemon drizzle cake (left over from a private view but one must remember the relationship between ‘beggars’ and ‘choosers’). Listened to people explain their work and looked at drawings,Continue reading “Emporium Temporay Sign”

On the river
I had a clear idea to go to Gravesend and take the ferry across the river, but only a vague notion of what to do after that. On the basis of a suggestion I walked east towards DP World London Gateway. Procter and Gamble factory at West Thurrock seen from Ebbsfleet station. It makes soapsContinue reading “On the river”

Drivers
An afternoon on the beach reading Robinson Crusoe and watching ships. Context reading is good fun. Reading art books in art galleries, books about trains while traveling on trains, cookery books in restaurants, history of Germany in a bar in Berlin, books about ships on cross channel ferries.
Spring light, and Varne lightvessel
The light was fantastic; like lucid dreaming. It was so clear the Varne LV (light vessel) could be seen. Samskip Endeavor – container ship – Rotterdam Waalhaven – Dublin. ….and the Varne LV (lightvessel). Varne LV warns shipping of the Varne bank – which is right in the middle of the busiest shipping lanes inContinue reading “Spring light, and Varne lightvessel”
Aegean Horizon
Just been to check that no ship(s) have got stuck in the Narrow Seas. All’s good. Here’s the Aegean Horizon (Crude Oil Tanker) on its way from Rotterdam to Algeciras. I made the mistake of leaving it too late to identify the other ships. It was one of those sorts of days.
Al Zubara – Hapag Lloyd
The container ship Al Zubara with a capacity of 19,000 TEUs. On its way from Rotterdam to Southampton. The port of Calais on the French coast. The ferry gives some sense of scale. I am currently waitingContinue reading “Al Zubara – Hapag Lloyd”
